Art<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do you subtitle a language that is visual and spatial instead of spoken?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the&nbsp;<strong>SUBSIGN \u2013 Subtitling Sign Languages<\/strong>&nbsp;Erasmus+ project, we have just completed the first \u201c<strong>state of the art<\/strong>\u201d report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This document brings together the reflections and discussions from activities A1.3 and A1.4, where our partners explored how existing subtitling practices meet (or fail to meet) the unique features of sign languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through collaborative exchanges we have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mapped out the current&nbsp;<strong>state of the art<\/strong>&nbsp;in subtitling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identified the main challenges when subtitling sign languages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taken the first steps towards defining what this new practice could look like<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is just the beginning of a much larger journey towards new approaches to subtitling and accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-handler-delloggetto-incorporato language<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How can the same subtitle work for two different sign languages?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the <strong>SUBSIGN \u2013 Subtitling Sign Languages<\/strong> Erasmus+ project, we have completed Activity A2: a comparative report cross-referencing <strong>Italian Sign Language (LIS)<\/strong> and <strong>Slovak Sign Language (SPJ)<\/strong> in the field of audiovisual translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This document builds on previous research and seminar discussions, bringing together linguistic analysis, professional practices, and direct input from Deaf communities in Italy and Slovakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-handler-delloggetto-incorporato wp-block-embed-handler-delloggetto-incorporato\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><a Guidelines<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the <strong>SUBSIGN \u2013 Subtitling Sign Languages<\/strong> Erasmus+ project, we have developed the <strong>SUBSIGN Guidelines \u2013 Version 2.0 (2025)<\/strong>: a comprehensive framework for subtitling content in sign languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These Guidelines provide clear, professional recommendations for audiovisual translators, sign language mediators, accessibility coordinators, and media professionals working with signed content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
